Capsella returns

capsella returns in pencilYou are probably wondering where the heck I have been and why the heck my posting is so infrequent. Well, none of your business. Now back to work. I was going to post this as just another example of my traditional artwork as this is a cleanly done still life of an old toy of mine, but then I saw the date I drew it on. Two nights after the infamous September 11, 2001 I sat down and sketched a small piece of capsella. How strange? The work was created September 13, 2001 while attending UNO. What is that?

Arm in charcoal and conte crayonToday’s traditional artwork was created in one of my sketch books as practice for much larger and definitely cooler works. Here we see a forearm of an unknown person drawn in charcoal and conte’ crayon, a mixed media piece if you will. Piece excuse the haughtyness, but it seemed to be the best way to make this piece seem professional. The work was created Fall semester, 1999 while attending UNO. Yet another late post…

Untitled pointillism Again with the tardiness, I have got to get on the ball with my posting. No excuse, minus two letter grades! This work was created as an experiment within on of my sketchbooks. I was trying to get a small image to appear using pen and ink and working purely with pointillism. As I created the work the figure began to appear. The work was created Febuary 21, 1999. Unfinished self portrait print

Self PrintThis partially finished work was to be part of a print-making project based around showing the artist involved in something he loved. In my can I planned to place a glowing computer monitor reflection in the eye of my face to depict my own emphasis on computers and how they can be used to create art. The work was not finished due to other more pressing concerns, but it still made it into my final portfolio. The work was created Fall semester, 2002. Repetition in ink

Repetition in inkHere was have a reletively old pen and ink on watercolor paper. This project was part of my Design I class at Mississippi State. The class taught me about black and white based artistic design and ways to arrange a work that is pleasing to the eye yet interesting to the mind. This piece used a small one inch square design repeated to create a larger more interesting project. I used an artist pen made by Micron to shade the various parts. The work was created Spring semester, 1998. Click through to see a larger version of the work. Also, I’d like to welcome all who have just discovered this site and encourage you to comment on each piece as you see fit. I plan on taking this site into the future by adding artist critiques of my own and I would love to hear from all of you.

Photograph print 3 of 10

Photograph print 3 of 10Today I begin to post some of my more traditional work. This print was created using a large hand rolled press and a hand etched brass plate. The work depicts a stack of Polaroid photographs, the top of which shows a woman feeding her cats. Originally the photo was of my wife and our cats, but as the etching took shape the image changed to one more of mystery than reality, as art tends to do. In the future I shall be posting more art created in the printmaking medium as well as with paint, charcoal, pencil, and ink among others. The work was created November 19, 2002. Drawn then ’shopped’ foreground

drawn then shoppedThis work was originally a scanned doodle that was taken into Photoshop and manipulated to appear more interesting and complex to the eye. I used it as part of a navagation sequence for a final project housing my portfolio for the semester it was created during. The work was created during the Spring semester of 2001 at the UNO.
