Almost forgot to start the Memorial Day Weekend Free For All…

Today is Free-For-All Friday! Free for All means you can post whatever you want on my blog. Say what you want to say, share a link, complain about the wheels on your chair, etc…all you have to do is login and post! Need an idea of what to write? Write a short poem about the coming holiday weekend. Also, if you like poetry, try out my father-in-law’s poetry forum site: AnOccasionalVerse.com. Hope I’m able to make it to everybody’s FFAF today and please enjoy. EDIT: oops, forgot to enable the guest account right, works now!

Here’s how to do it:

1. Go to http://www.schleifstein.net/wp-admin/post.php
2. Login/Password: guest/freeforall
3. Enter a title, make the category “free for all”
4. Type what you want to type in “Post” and feel free to add technorati tags in the “Tags” box.
5. When you’re done, click “Publish”

Rules:
1. Please keep it somewhat clean…if you don’t think I would post it, don’t. God forbid if I find spam or porn links…
2. Feel free to link your blog…just make sure you say who you are. (sign your post)
3. I reserve the right to edit/delete inappropriate posts (or those with really obvious spelling mistakes)
4. Please don’t link to images, since this is an artist portfolio site I prefer to have only my artwork here, your thoughts on anything are fine I just need to draw the line at image linking, thanks.

I’ve been feeling awful the past couple of days… it has yet to be determined if i am having just a bad reaction to allergy season or if i just have a horrid cold… So, as you may remember, I said I would post some pics of the shuffle costume assembly. My wife and I assembled the costume to wear as part of a fake iPod shuffle advertisement while attending Purim service at Shul, but on arrival we thought better of wearing it as we would of been older than the other dressed up participants by a number of years as most were kids… so we decided to shelf the iPod til the next carnival holiday or masquerade party… oh well… feel free to click through to see some photos taken during the building and design of the work.

first I drew out the way I wanted the piece to look

then I cut out the faces and sides of the iPod and made sure the arm holes were big enough

here the plan lays on top of the finished face of the iPod

the back of the iPod is easily visible on top of the face

now I’m attaching the sides of the iPod together

one of my cats wanted to help assemble the ipod and climbed inside

almost done attaching a top piece to allow the ipod to float in front of my face

finally I get to wear the costume!

Listener in a sketchbook

Self portrait in a sketchbook

Found in my sketch book, yet another figure drawing. This is part of a series of gesture drawings I will be posting over the next few days in a bid to make up for my lack of posts over the last couple of days. A gesture drawing is a quickly drawn sketch where the artist does not lift his pencil from the paper and does not correct the work after the fact. I really enjoy this type of sketch as it let’s me release the work quickly and keeps me from screwing up the piece by thinking to much. The work was created Fall semester, 1999 while attending UNO. Curves in a sketchbook

Found in my sketch book is a nicely drawn set of curves whose shadowing may cause the viewer to take pause. I think I intended the curves to practice my figure drawing and meant them to hint at more than they rally are. This sketch reminds the viewer of the female form without explicitly giving away the show which helps to keep the piece interesting. The work was created Fall semester, 1999 while attending UNO. Empty coffee

This drawing was created to give a representation of negative space and to show a still life minus an important piece. Piece is made interesting and confusing to the eye by removing the cup and giving the viewer a chance to see the coffee. Because this part is usually hidden, the scene becomes confusing and odd. This was drawn quickly and experimentally in a sketchbook while relaxing in a coffee shop late at night. The work was created Fall semester, 2001 while attending UNO. Sketchbook contour

Today a two-fer. First we have a contour drawing done in one of my old sketchbooks as practice during my introduction to figure drawing class. I created the work by reading to many comic books late one night and then drawing a couple of conour images. Whay is she faceless? At the time I was not to confident in my facial drawing so i decided to go with the Viper(tm) of G. I. Joe(tm) look. The work was created Fall semester, 1999 while attending UNO.
