Facial site navigation

Facial site navigationThis work was created as a navigation for the cat walk movie project. The intention here was to show an animated short through the eyes of the artist. Within each of the eyes of the face are two mirror image movies that are controled by small buttons on the sides of each eye, once the navigation is activated. Originally the work was intended as a stand alone website with navigation points to a contact form as well as additional text information about the site. Click the small ‘m’ button in the animation to activate the navigation and view the small cat movies. The work was created during the Spring semester 2003 at UNO. Click through to see a larger version of the work.

Coffee drop contour animation

Coffee drop contour animationThis animation was created by filming a waiter at my favorite coffee shop mock dropping a cup of coffee on me. Then I imported the video to flash and traced the contours of each frame. Next I deleted the video and exported the animation to Flash and here it is. The concept behind the animation was part of a larger project related to letting the user experience a story on a website via a web-cam and Flash player. The project ended up developing into something completely different and included an undocumented feature of Flash MX that allows Flash to take a picture of a user (with permission of course). I will post that work in the future and may follow with a tutorial showing you how to photograph your users with their own web cam using Flash and no Flash Communication Server. The work was created during the Fall semester 2002 at UNO. Click through to see a larger version of the work.

Weekly recommendations

Starting today, I will be giving a weekly book recommendation from Amazon.com. Once a week I will post a short book or other product recommendation from Amazon with an associated product link to Amazon.com. You can help support this site by purchasing through these links. Also please use the Amazon search box under the links on the right to search Amazon for products and every purchase you make will help support this site. And now my first recommendation.

I purchased the Flash MX version of this exact book when doing research for my final project senior semester at UNO. The book was the only one to help me figure out how to use the web camera interface in Flash MX without the use of Flash Communication Server. The book is setup like an encyclopedia of sorts and can be extremely helpful when you have a strong background in Flash but need an everyday reference for those really confusing projects. I hope you enjoy Macromedia Flash MX 2004 ActionScript Bible by Robert Reinhardt, Joey Lott, Robert Reinhardt, Joey Lott.

Thanks for helping support the site and look for more interesting titles and products in the future.

Wedding site navigation

Wedding site homepage navigationThis interactive Flash navigation page was created for a website devoted to giving information to all about my wedding on July 1, 2004.The navigation posted here goes to all under construction filler links. When used originally, I created pages with ways for guests to check out our hotel, find our registries and to get around the city. I will be posting some other pages from this site in future. The work was created during April 2004. Click through to see a larger version of the work.

Body project

Body projectThis interactive Flash movie was created for a Digital Media project as part of one of my art classes at UNO. The work was part of a class project on parts of the body. I was assigned the skeleton. I decided to create a flash based project that used the skeleton as a navigation system to show what different areas of the body do, but I wanted the skeleton to have a non-body feeling. There are five movies external to the main work that display various ideas on what each body part can either represent of things that can happen to the body, such as “strength” and “break.” The work was created during the Spring semester 2002. Horrid floating ad creation

A while back I found this tutorial on a way to create your own extremely annoying floating flash based advertising. I just read an article about this on the new FlashInsider blog and thought I should post this link as well.

Cat walk movie project

Cat walk movie projectThis Flash movie was created for a Digital Media project as part of one of my art classes at UNO. First I used a miniDV camcorder to record the scene. Then I imported the video to Premiere. Next I exported the video to frames and used a Photoshop batch process to edit every frame and optimize them. After that I imported the frames to a Flash movie and preformed an opmtimize bitmap function on each individual frame. I added the play/pause functionality and published the movie. The work originally was part of a larger project relating the idea making process to the artist. The project had a navagation based on my face and the movie would appear with a mirrored verision in the lenses of my glasses. I will post another part of this project later. The work was created during the Spring semester 2002. Click through to see a larger version of the work.
